TYOA NEWS/EVENTS

MORE ADVENTURES ON THE CORPUS CHRISTI BAY!

On July 31, 2008 TYOA had the opportunity through a generous donation to take two young ladies out for their first fishing experience.  Tori and Dolly, both from Urban Connections in San Antonio, joined guide Steve Schultz and Justin on a bay fishing trip out of Corpus Christi.  These two ladies were in for some "reel" action right from the start.

After waking up earlier than usual, we all enjoyed a fast ride out into the bay and God blessed us with an amazing sunrise over the water.  It was easy to see His handiwork and the girls commented on how beautiful the early morning was.  We tried to name some birds and saw a few pelicans diving for breakfast.

Steve put us on the fish early and Dolly hooked up with her first fish ever, not long after turning the motor off!  She was excited and ready for more.  Both young ladies turned out to be some excellent anglers.  It wasn't long before Tori caught what would measure to be a 26 inch speckled trout!  A great fish for any boat and what a way to start the day.

We fished several locations before returning with 18 nice specks.  Dolly and Tori's arms were tired from reeling in so many fish!  Looks like the girls ruled on this trip!  We had an incredible experience and made a memory that will last a lifetime!  Thanks to all those who made this trip unforgettable.  Take a look at some of our pictures on the "Photo Album" page.  Also, be sure to click on Steve's picture on the "Sponsors" page for more information on this awesome fishing guide.

ADVENTURES ON THE CORPUS CHRISTI BAY!

It was a day of firsts for Hector and Manuel from Urban Connections.  Neither boy had ever been to the beach before, let alone been saltwater fishing.  That all changed when TYOA went on our first adventure with Captain Steve Schultz.

Saturday morning, the gang was up at the crack of dawn to beat the rest of the fishermen to the good spots.  It didn't take long at all before Steve got the boys on top of all kinds of fish!  Hector and Manuel would have made even the most experienced angler jealous, as they even outfished the adults!  When we had our limit of trout, we decided to call it a day.

Wow, what a trip to the coast with Captain Steve Schultz!
Be sure to check the "Photo Album" page for more pictures of this adventure, and click on Steve's picture on the "Sponsors" page to book a trip with him today.

IT'S SUMMER TIME!!!

The weather is heating up, school is almost out, and TYOA is ready to get hooked on fishing!   Below are a few adventures already planned for June and July.  We are fired up about the 2 fishing trips with Captain Steve Schultz.  He is a great guide and an even better guy, so please visit his link on our "SPONSORS" page and give him a call today.

In addition to these exciting fishing adventures, TYOA is in the process of organizing camps for kids who want to learn more about the outdoors.  Kenny Watts, avid fisherman and friend of TYOA, has committed to help host a fishing camp and at least one hunting retreat is in the works.  We are still searching for sponsors and volunteers for these events.

The TYOA fishing calendar is starting to fill up, and we will soon start booking our fall/winter hunting trips.  For more information on how you can be a part of TYOA's best year yet, please see our "Contact Us/Donate" page.

LOTS OF FUN AT THE GOODMAN RANCH!
During the second weekend of January, TYOA teamed up with Urban Connections again for another exciting adventure.  Since David was unsuccessful on the previous trip, we decided to take him, his brother Hector and buddy Paul to the Goodman Ranch in Cherokee, TX.  The hunting conditions were not ideal and the movement was slow, but everyone involved had a great time.  In between hunts, the boys enjoyed fishing and riding 4-wheelers.  The take home message from the trip was that even when you don't harvest an animal, you can still have a lot of fun hunting!  TYOA would like to thank the Sportsman's Warehouse on Loop 1604, San Antonio for sponsoring this trip by donating the youngsters' camo coveralls!  We would also like to once again thank Urban Connections and James Goodman for making this adventure possible.

RAM HUNT WITH URBAN CONNECTIONS A HUGE SUCCESS!
On November 17, Justin took two boys from Urban Connections to the Camp of the Hills in Ozona, TX.  The day could not have gone any better, with youngster Paul harvesting an awesome ram!  Both boys proved to be excellent hunters, both during and after the hunt.  Memories were made that will not soon be forgotten, and we would like to send a special thanks to the Camp of the Hills for this wonderful opportunity.  Please visit our "Photo Album" page for additional pictures from this adventure.

TYOA TURKEY HUNT WITH CENTRAL TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOME
The turkeys were nervous when four girls from CTCH arrived on the Goodman Ranch just north of Llano Texas.  The girls had never hunted before.  After a restless night of sleep, we arrived in our blinds in anticipation of a giant gobbler.  After successful calling and hard hunting, one of the girls placed a perfect shot on an awesome tom.  The turkey had a double beard of 11" and 6".  High fives were given by all.  The weekend was topped off with fishing and fellowship.  The girls have already made plans for future hunting trips with TYOA.   Good job girls!!!  A special thank you to Sportsmans Warehouse for sponsoring this trip.

1st ANNUAL KIDS SERIES A GREAT SUCCESS
The first annual Texas Kids Series was held on May 6, 2007.  The wind did not effect these young anglers as they did battle with redfish, trout, sheepshead and many other saltwater species.  TYOA sponsored 22 kids from Medina Children's Home.  Great fishing, fun and fellowship were had by all that attended.  A special thank you to Simrod Outdoors for putting on this event which helped raised money and support for Texas Youth Outdoor Adventures.  TYOA would also like to thank the many volunteers and especially the captains who gave up their time to help introduce a child to the great outdoors.
